The domain comet.edustandards.org hosts a publicly accessible installation of the Comet tool. It offers the same functionality as individual installations and is free to use for creating digital competence grids.
Competence grids exported from this tool can be further modified and integrated within Moodle, enabling seamless use in digital learning environments.

Integration with Moodle and the Exabis Tool Suite
Over the past years, Moodle has introduced its own competence framework functionality. However, this built-in system follows a different conceptual approach and is currently not compatible with the version of competence grids used by the Comet tool.
To fully implement the Comet concep it is essential to install the Exabis plugins for Moodle. These can be found here. Digital competence grids (in XML format) created in Comet can be imported into Moodle. Once imported, competencies can be linked to student data, allowing educators to assess students across multiple levels of competence.
Exabis plugins for Moodle were specifically developed to support the documentation, visualization, and student-driven development of competences. It includes the following core modules: Exabis ePortfolio (nables students to store and manage artefacts), Exabis Competencies (tracks and documents students' work on defined competences, including trainer assessments), Exabis Student Review (a reporting tool that aggregates data from the competencies module, offering cross-course and interdisciplinary assessment options, and enabling interaction with digital competence grids).
To complement this ecosystem, the Dakora+ app was developed in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It provides a streamlined interface for working with digital competence grids and communicates with Moodle via web services.
Together, these tools provide a comprehensive reporting system based on individual learning development. Such reports can form a valuable foundation for counseling sessions and help guide the next steps in a student's learning journey.
In light of GDPR, careful handling of student data is crucial. Competence-based assessments can serve not only as a guide for the individual learning process, but also as a foundation for personalized learning pathways. To ensure data protection and institutional control, it is essential that such systems remain under the management of the educational organization. This makes Moodle, as an open-source platform, the preferred solution for many institutions across Europe.
